During a trip to the shops, I took the lift (elevator) to get to my car on the lower level. As I pressed “-1”, the lift decided to go up, which immediately made my heart rate go up as well, as I was irritated that it did not go down as I instructed it to. It reached the upper floor and a lady got in. We politely greeted each other, and she said, “You look so nice with the red. I love that everything is matching – you look very festive”. I was so taken aback with the full three sentences of compliments coming my way in such a short span, that I started to regret being mad at the lift (elevator) for going up. I have to admit I was feeling rather down that day, and it was the upliftment (pun intended) that I needed.

Just like life, things will not always go your way (I was supposed to go down). They might work out differently than planned (going up was never a bad thing) and sometimes turn out even better than you planned (it was really awesome receiving compliments from a stranger, not because I needed validation from people, but because, as the body of Christ (Romans 12), we are there to encourage and uplift each other). Life can be unpredictable – so let’s embrace the unplanned moments; for there is always something that can be uplifting!
