Be you – Drama Competition

Keeping the Arts alive and encouraging you to be yourself: Be you Drama Competition is for ALL ages and all walks of life.

Sent us a clear video (Landscape via wetransfer to info@buttonup.co.za) of you performing the following (in any style and genre of your choice – English or Afrikaans), in 3minutes or less (minimum 1min –  maximum 3min):

  • Monologue
  • Prose piece
  • Poetry
  • Movement
  • Prepared Reading

R50 per entry and you can enter as many items as you like as long as it is 3minutes or less.
Any item that surpasses the time limit will not be considered.
NO Registration Fee.
Entries will only be viewed once entry form is completed and proof of payment is sent to info@buttonup.co.za. 

Prizes Include:

  1. One on one coaching session with the judges (1 hour).
  2. 3 Motivational Mini Digital Books from ButtonUp
  3. A FREE drama class with one of the coaches (1 hour).
  4. A shoutout on the judges social media platforms.

Entries Close 31 May 2023.
Winner will be chosen on the 1st of June.

No entries will be accepted after 31 May 2023. Judges decision is final.

About the Panel:

Industry professionals Luan Jacobs and Maryka Roux are the judges of the competition.

Luan Jacobs is an actor, director, writer and producer and has been in the industry for more than 13 years. You will have seen him in numerous Afrikaans soapies like 7de Laan, Binnelanders, Fynskrif as well as films like Ballade vir ‘n Enkeling, Hoe om ‘n perd te teken, Suurlemoen etc. Go check out his accolades online. He is a passionate artist that is unique and he shares his light so that others can shine. His name also literally means light. Luan also lectures at PALI.

Maryka Roux is an actress, singer and Motivational Speaker and has been in the industry for over 5 years, hosting talks all over South Africa as well as doing musical theatre and leading a Motivational business called ButtonUp. She also teaches Drama at an International Academy: Helen O’Grady Drama Academy. She has always been weird but wonderful and encourages everyone to be your unique self.
